As children in grade school, we are taught that there are 5 senses. In reality there are 18 known senses, however, there are 7 major sensory systems that can be affected by sensory processing disorders or a variety of other disorders including autism. Neurotypical children can sometimes have problems with 1 or more sensory areas as well. Even if no processing issues are present, all children learn through sensory activities!
